Samsung or Maxtor?

Fairly tough call, but between those two, I'd opt for the Samsung as they have proven very reliable for us, more so than Maxtor. The Maxtor will likely give a bit better performance, although that may be difficult to discern under most usage. Samsung drives generally quieter.

Seagate for best reliability and GB/$

I have one samsung right now and I'm impressed with it.. fast and quiet.. like I like these things!

Yeh, I can't really recommend WD with everything that Seagate is doing now. Excellent products from the elderly manufacturer.

Hell, my 1989 Zenith Data Systems system had a Seagate hard drive. And a Western Digital GRAPHICS CARD!!!
