Hi,

We have a big problem with the delay in audio redirection on TS.

It takes around 1.5 seconds for a sound to start playing after it has been
initiated. This is a powerful server with 100MB network. So it might be even
longer delay on other TS servers.

As a result of this the sound reports back as finished the same amount of
time before it stops playing also.

The reason for us having this issue is that we are syncing text and sound.

We're using a third party sound engine (FMOD), but the same thing happens
with Windows Media Player (even slower) also.

Any ideas ?

David

The sound on TS is IMHO not usefule for anything other than system beeps and
the Ding when you receive email in Outlook (for the reasons you outlined).
If decent sound is a requirement, then Citrix Presentation Server may be the
way to go because it offers sound at three levels (low, medium and high
quality), configurable via policy. Unless absolutely needed, most Citrix ad
TS Admins disable the sound.

Presentation Server is expensive, and usually is not purchased just for
sound, but that is one feature that is far superior than that of RDP's sound.

You can find info on Citrix Presentation Server here:

Thanks for the info.

Since we have no control over what our customers use, this dont help us much
:-(

Sure it helps, you can tell them that the performance of the sound over an
RDP Connection is very basic, so it's not a problem with their system, it's
working as designed.

If they have to have this working, then you have a solution, but one that
costs $$$.

As a tech support person there are always things that are out of your
control. You have to tell your customers what the systems limitations are,
and what their options are.

You can deal with your latency problem [and use microphone with RDP] by paying $69 one-time Elusiva Remote Sound instead of paying for Citrix. It's at http://www.elusiva.com/products/RemoteSound.aspx
We use it for Windows XP VDI, but it works with regular terminal services as well
