Drive Suggestions

I am building another system for my father and need some quick advice. It needs a DVD drive (either a burner or simply ROM, doesn't matter). Normally, I toss in a Lite-On drive. However, my two Lite-On drives, that are not more than a year old, are showing that they have a terrible time trying to read less than perfect DVD.

Any suggestions on DVD drives which have a good ability to read media in less than perfect condition?

sony has some half way desent drives. you might want to try lacie too they are good

Maybe I'm alone, I haven't seen any Memorex fanboys per se--but I've used Memorex drives since 1997 and even that one still works. I've had their DVDRW 16X DL drive a year and a half no problems. I'd like to hear from somebody about Memorex too cause nobody hates em but nobody loves em I feel like...

LG makes good drives, as does NEC. I have an NEC DVD burner (it's 2 yrs old) the 2550. I'm impressed - the 3550A is the newest and its got good reviews.

Benq I believe has the current DVD burner winner but none of the above are bad.
