Windows updates failed to install, then disappeared!!!

I am setting up a PC by wiping out Win2K and installing WinXP Pro. It
installed fine then I went to do Windows updates. I selected 18 or 20 of
them and told it to go ahead and install. I came back a while later and
there was a message listing all of the updates in red, saying none of them
installed properly. So I rebooted.

Now Windows update only shows updates I have installed since then, only 4 or
5. The others don't show up as failed installed, missing installs or
anything - they just don't appear anyhere!

Are they installed or not? How can I check?

Thanks,
Mich

Are you sure ALL of them had the red X? You can check your add/remove
programs list many of the installs show up there.

Yes they do show up there. Why don't they show up when I am on the Updates
site and ask to see updates I have installed?

Was one of the updates new drivers for your network card or modem (whatever
you use to connect to the internet)? I've had it happen before where I
downloaded Microsoft's update for a NIC and before it was finished
installing it tried to go to the 'finished installing updates' page in IE.
Of course I got a 'page cannot be displayed' but everything worked on
reboot. If it doesn't get to the finished page MS might not log that you
installed the updates properly.
In any case I wouldn't worry about it. As long as the updates got installed
your OK.
