Hi,

If I am printing to a local printer from within a TS session. Whats the
impact on the WAN connection in use ?

i.e. is the print job sent up the WAN and down again to the local printer or
is it spooled directly onto the desktop by-passing the WAN bandwidth
overhead?

anyone got any good links on the mechanics of this and terminal
server/citrix/third party printing?

cheers

John,
The WAN bandwidth is used, and can have some adverse effects depending on
bandwidth available. I am currently experiencing a problem with jagged TS
sessions during a client print session. If there is a way to throttle the
print speed, then this may address that issue. I have a similar post here
concerning that. I know that if you set the print resolution to the lowest
available, then that will help get the print job delivered sooner, however I
want the print spool process to be throttled so as not to hog the available
bandwidth.

Printer Bandwidth throttling is a feature of Citrix MetaFrame, and is not built into RDP. The print jobpath depends on how the printer is connected to the client, i.e. local printer, network printer, TCP/IP Printer on Terminal Server, Network Printer defined in user's profile (i.e. network printer hosted by a print server on the same LAN as the Terminal Server).

Details of the TS Printing Process can be found here:
