A new Epson C84 I purchased flags EPSON cartridges that are almost full as
being empty. If you reinstall the cartridge, it claims it is empty and will
not let it be used.

I've been using the TO431 high capacity black ink cartridge. I print a few
pages of text on the weekends and the printer is not used during the week.
I purchased the printer at the end of August and have gone through 3 high
capacity ink cartridges and two set of the color cartridges. In all cases
the "empty" ink cartriges were literally full of ink!

It seems like the ink monitor or its driver is out to lunch.

I know the printer companies are making their money selling ink and the
rejection of "empty" cartridges is to force you to buy from them as opposed
to refilling the cartridges.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there some scam with the printer
companies have ink monitors that are intentionally in error to force you to
buy ink?

I'm thinking scrapping this printer and never buying another EPSON. Any
recommnedations?

Cut your losses. Dump the Epson and get a Canon.
Yes, they are good printers, when they don't have clogs or chip problems!

Still under warranty. Contact the people from whom you bought it or
the Epson people. They are very good on backing up their warranty.

Since your printer is under warranty from Epson why not discuss this
with them and see if a replacement is required. What you are
experiencing is not normal. You may wish to ask them to reimburse you
for the excess amount of ink cartridges you have gone through, as well.
