Yo,

I recently overclocked my amd athlon 64 3500+, but now I would like to overclock my asus x800xt . Anyone of you allready done this succesfully. If so, which tool did you use and exactly how did you do it. I allready tried a few options, but so far no succes. for example the auto-detection from atitool results in a reboot. I am also wondering if once I overclocked it should I do it every time I restart my computer or do the clockspeeds remain the same. If I overclock, the clockspeeds remain on default in ati control center, that's why I am a bit confused ? Idea's anyone ?

I use ATI tool to OC my x800 xt. I can only get to 540mhz before I get artifacting. What kind of results are you guys gettting? I have a passive heat sink I installed on it, I wonder if that keeps it from oc'ing better or if I just expected too much. I mean, I can't really notice an 8% difference in performance, I doubt anyone cout. I was hoping for 15-20%. Oh well.
As for ATI tool, it is really cool. It even helps test you clock settings for stability. And they can be applied at system start-up, too. I just wish you could adjust the AA and AF for each profile.

ok, reading your comments I decided to give atitool another try. I found out why I was having troubles with it at first. I had ati overdrive enabled and that gave problems from the moment I tried to overclock. with that disabled now, I did some testing and came to a result :

not overclocked / 3Dmark05 1.20 score : 6286

only core overclocked (530) / 3Dmark05 1.20 score : 6290

both overclocked (531/585) / 3Dmark05 1.20 score : 6420

It's not an awesome result, but my card seems to be stable at these clockspeeds and it's faster than just enableing atioverdrive.

thanx for the info.

Now that's some thorough testing if I've ever seen it. Thanks for the info. Looks like 550/610 was the highest you got. I can't get my card to run that fast. I tried it again last night and the got errors at any core higher than 545 and memory faster than 605. Not that it matters, I usually use ATI tool to underclock my card, as it's good enough to give 60fps on anything I play (Unreal2k4, Guild Wars), at 300mHz.
BTW I tried Rivatuner, and I'd have to say ATI tool owns.

My card is AGP and yes the highest i got was (550/610), but only in 3Dmark05 1.20. the tests didn't pass in atitool at such high clock speeds. that's why I ended up at (531/585)

My card is an X800 XT AIW AGP 8x. Lots of letters...
ATI tool works the card harder than anything else, so you know if it says the clock is stable, it really is.

Check the temps on the card. High temps are BAD!!! If the heatsink is passive, consider buying that 80mm fan to attach to it. Once you do better on the cooling, your card should run stable (it should pass the ATi Tool scanning for 15 min). I personally am getting an a Zalam Cooler for a my new X800XT (my X850 Pro turned out to be defective, but hey, now I can get a faster graphics card :) )
