Not long ago i posted on the cpu forums for help to an issue ive been
combating for 4 days and am posting it here aswell because it may
involve my mobo aswell. AMD support forums provided no soltutions
and outlook may be grim here aswell considering my prob appears
to be quite rare. In a nut shell: i have a new X2 3800+ and a new
A8V Rev2.00, and my cpu is running @ 1/2 speed...each core is running
@ 1ghz where they are supposed to be 2ghz each. The clockspeeds
were reported using CPUz, amd cpuinfo, and system properties in
general tab, 1st with cool n quite dissabled, then activated, then dissabled
again.

I have since done a fresh Win xp pro sp2 install, flashed my bios
4 times (from ver 0216 to 0221 beta back to 0219), installed sandra
to supplement my other tools, played musical chairs with my RAM,
and messed with everything setting on bios setup (50% of which im
not too sure what they do), tinkered with power management, ACPI
settings (all while pulling my hair, punching walls, and coming short
of minor self-mutilation) ..but none of this fix my clockspeed issues.
Ive even stress tested my cpu with 2 instances of prime95
with and without cool n quiet to see if the workload increase would
also bump up my clock speed... which it didnt.

Now for the big kicker that baffles me to no end, after my 1st
flash attempt (which failed due to bad floppy resulting in AFUDOS and
EZflash not reading the A8VB.ROM) before the os reinstall... i rebooted
soon after the floppy wasnt beeing read, and upon windows fully loading
up my cpu cores were for some reason or another running at full speed
for the 1st time since i installed my cpu and mobo. Im my infinite
joy after more testing and with time for work approaching, i shutoff
system and head out to working thing of the big BF2 and Q4 mega
sessions i will have when i get. Anyway, upon returning home and
booting up, my (ultimately shortlived and temporary) jump in clockspeed
reverted back to the crappy 1ghz per core.

What can i do? What are my options now? Please someone tell me
the situation is still salvageble.... how to fix my clockspeeds you will
make a friend for life.

Go back thop the asus site link below

http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx

select your mobo socket (939) next select your model ( a8v ) scroll down and download BIOS 208 rev E6 rom and reflash bios useing the floppy! see if this fix's your problem!

so far it sounds like you have flashed the wrong bios verision
also if your floppy isnt working you need to go into the bios under boot options priorty and select the floppy as 1st HDD 2nd

good luck bro

i'm having similar problems with the a8v. when i cold boot it runs about 75% what it should. when i restart it runs fine. i basically have to restart right away.

my aquamark03 scores are 53000 after cold boot, then 79000 after restart.
i called support and they said it was a psu issue? anyway try restarting and see if it runs faster.
