hey guys, i'm new here, so go easy on me. :)
i just build my new system,
amd 4400 with AeroCool GT-1000 Gold Plated CPU Cooler
evga 7800gtx
asus a8n sli pre
200g maxtor HD
2g ram, 1g(2x512) ocz dual channel and 1g(2x512) samsung ram.

did a little test yesterday, only got 7887 on 3dmark05, is there something wrong with my system? i didn't overclock anything though. i check online, people have the same kind system scored at least over 8000, don't know why.... and my cpu is kind slow compare to other 4400, here are some test result:

3DMark Score 7887 3DMarks
CPU Score 4776 CPUMarks

Game Tests
GT1 - Return To Proxycon 33.3 fps
GT2 - Firefly Forest 24.4 fps
GT3 - Canyon Flight 38.7 fps

CPU Tests
CPU Test 1 2.2 fps
CPU Test 2 4.5 fps

is there any one knows why i am getting this low mark? thanks guys.

It's not a bad score but it still a little low IMO.
Make sure the video card is in the top slot.
Make sure your ram is in the correct slots to enable dual channel.

Heyyou27 what is your 3Dmark05 score?

That's average... not a thing in the world wrong with your system. Want higher scores? OC the processor and video. I have the same setup (except for the brand name of the video card) as you except I have OC'd my processor to 2.6 and my video card to 490/1.32 and I score 8732. Anyone that says they're getting 10,000 out of a stock 256 MB GTX is obviously smoking crack.

Sure you didn't get the 512 MB benchmarks mixed up with the 256 MB ones?

ok, i see. my card is on the bottom slot, because of the huge heatsink i put on top of my cpu..., if i move my card to the top slot, i guess it will be a little to close to the heatsink. i am just afraid that the heat generated from the heatsink is going to heat up my video card a bit. but i will try to put the card back on the top slot and see what happens. thanks man!

Are you asking me? Because I'm the one you replied to.

That's what sucks about aftermarket cpu cooler's. They are so huge it can be hard to fit anything in there. I think water cooling would better right? Never seen one done, but I'm just guessing here.

On my old AGP A64 system my Gfx card was less than half an inch from the edge of my XP-120. It never bothered me......

Of course now it's miles away, since the KN8 Ultra has a few PCI-E 1x slots between the 16x slot and the RAM/CPU area.

The thing is, from what I read, that if the VC is not in the first slot, it does lag in performance. This is what other people have said in tom's forums. I wish I had the link. Or is it this one. But that what's I read. See that would suck if you spent 500 bucks or more for a VC and you can't get the full potential. Plus, with all these freaking technology and shit, why can't they make the damn HSF smaller???? I mean come on, this aint the 1990's u know.

I would try overclocking your machine and checking all your settings...

I'm running a single core intel 3.4 OC'd to 4.0 with a single 7800GT and 1GB Ram... so slower CPU than you, lower end vid card and half the ram and im getting a little over 8000 points on 3DMark05.
