Pay close attention because this is may get a little complicated
Winton was14 years older than myself and graduated from High School at 16. Little brothers have the tendency to go through their older brother stuff but I didn’t have the chance to go through his stuff like I went through Nathan’s, which Nathan can attest to!
But what can I say about the Second son of Nebert and Jessie Forde. First and foremost which is most obvious to most of you here we look alike and he is almost as good looking as I am. Second, he knows a lot of people and is likable/well liked. And why not that is who I am. I CAN NOT TELL you how many times I have been somewhere and a stranger comes up to me looks my and says Winton!!! Or you must be winton’s brother and to that I answer, no!!! I’m not his brother, he is mine, I looked better than him don’t I?!! Now what can you say to that except being caught off guard agree. Really now, How do I know my brother is a good looking, friendly guy? Well, this is the best part---most of the people that present themselves to me are females. What’s up with that.
But, You take the gifts that are given you and you use them to the best of your ability. It has given me a degree of self confidence with females one usually would not get growing up on a farm with a lot of chickens like I did.
When I turned 16 I went to Chicago and because I fingered a gang member with a long rap sheet I was told to get out of Chicago by Chicago’s Finest for my own safety. Winton and Joy accepted me into their home in Parchment, MI. Long story short that is that you provided an environment where I began to excel in High School and in life. I excelled to the point that my unknown to me, my counsellers and teachers wrote to the selective service system on my behalf and I never had to go into the military service during the Viet Nam era. Winton, You got me my first job with Kotsi Dimitry, a local restauranteur, you also got me my first car…do you remember that!!
Fate is amazing, you see, now I was given a second chance --- to do what little brothers do best. Get into their bigger brothers stuff. “he he he” You will never guess what I found. Anybody here want to guess??? Well because of what I found I can thank Winton for getting me my first car.
Ya see winton had this Job with Kalamazoo Catering and Vending. I remember the owner, Bob. What a nice guy. Winton use to take me on his route on Sunday mornings filling the vending machines with food, candy and gum . James Dobson of Focus on the family says that working with a father is the greatest form of play for a child. At that time You winton, were my father figure.
Now, what I found one day was keys to the vending machines, free money, or so I thought. Little did I think that they had a way to keep a record of what went into the machines and the money that should have been received into back into the company till.
Like I said Bob was a nice guy. But I know my big brother went to bat for me. But by that time I had purchased a car and a friend was keeping it at his house. Nothing fancy, just a little red English car called a Hillman. But it began my love affair with English cars.
Oh, Speaking about love affairs --- April called me to ask if we were for sure coming to Winton’s 70’th B’day party and she asked how many were coming. I said 6. She said 6? My known family consisted of my self, Judi whom I married in 1983, and three daughters Jessalynn who is 15, Aleisha and Marissa who are 13. So I told here that there was a daughter that was coming that none of the family had ever seen before. Bless her heart, she only said well that is just more people for us to love. April called later and talked to Judi and told her that she and winton had decided not to say anything to anyone about our new addition but that they were leaving it up to us. Yesterday, Eva was concerned that I should introduce my daughter and her new cousin to everybody.
Winton, you have always had a big heart. Love and concern for the least of those around you those in trouble has been your trademark you married April who has the same values you are inclusive and you have included Veronica into this family. For months I have called her my other daughter. Now she is one of our extended family.
However, now is the time for absolution. Unfortunately, Veronica is not my daughter is the daughter of a diplomat the true daughter of a pastor friend of mine David and Maryann Montoya Ambassabors for Christ whom we have known for 3 years.
All of my life I have looked in awe of you as I have with all of the rest of my brothers, Erwin, Nathan, Anthony - men, all sons of Nebert and Jessie. But tonight is Your night Winton. When it comes to roasting you this is the best that I could do and In reality when people ask me if I am related to you I smile and I am proud to say yes!!!, not only have you given me a legacy but also a future. Winton, my brother, I love and Salute you.
