worth upgrading 6600gt to 7800gt?

I bought my 6600gt last march for about $175-200. I wanted the 6800's but they were way to expensive at the time.

Now I'm looking into getting the 7800gt and wondering if it's the right time to buy or wait a little longer.

Any suggestions?

1gb corsair ram pc3200
120gb wd sata hd

According to Tom's the 7800GT is a 93% increase in performance over the 6600GT. To me that is the most important non-monetary consideration. As for money, NewEgg has the 7800GT for $300, that’s a good deal if you can afford it. At a better price point, the 6800GS is going for $200 @ a 39% increase. So your pocket has the last say.
(BTW; I upgraded from 6600GT to 7800GT this Xmas)

If you can afford 7800gtx. There about in the mid 400. But from what I hear get the 7800gt. That's what I plan On getting. If you go to tigerdirect.com they are offering free games like COD2 or Quake 4 with the purchase of the 7800gt. If you have those game anyways go ahead and get it anyways and sell it off to ebay. COD2 is retail version. :twisted:

According to something I read here, once Ati's X1700 series are released, the 7800GT will lower it's price. If you're going to buy you, you might want to wait a couple weeks.

I would but tigerdirect are offering free retail games with a purchase of 7800gt. The sale will last until end of this month. So I dont think I will wait but we'll see. :twisted:

A little difference here in the US, but not by much. I come one the price for a 7800gtx 512 is almost 800. That's really expensive as well. You could build a whole new system with that kind of money. :twisted:

Well, the 7800GT is a great buy, I dont have any regrets.
If you feel like doing some major overclocking, I've seen people hitting
nearly 9000 points on X1800XL's.

To be honest though, you have a short time before the launch of new product lines from ATI and Nvidia. This means the price of the GT and GTX will go down, making the X a viable (and affordable) solution. Or you could go with the newer G71 midrange, considering your about to drop $300 on the GT.
You might just want to wait a little while and see what unfolds.

You can't go wrong with the 7800 GT right now. As far as what the future brings you can be certain that video cards will be better and cheaper. If you really want to wait new stuff is always coming out. This has been the way of computer hardware since the first solid state transistors were invented. No matter what you buy or when it will eventually seem like overpriced junk compared to what comes out later in time.

It's always a good thing to remember that card that sits in the box in the closet, as you bask in the newfound joy of the artful 7800.

I've not read the thread, so I don't know what else has been said: But going from your title alone, if your current card isn't cutting it, then yep. The 7800Gt is a good choice.

If you play FEAR, the 7800GT is nice performance for the money spent..

(It's still playable on a 6600GT, just without AA/AF, which I rarely can tell the difference anyway....; who looks for jaggies in a firefight?)

I went from a 6800 to a 7800GT and the difference was amazing... I would do it again in a heartbeat with no doubts in my mind.

Great card, great price. I'm getting over 8000 on 3DMark05 with my P4 3.4 and my single 7800GT.

I was just worried about timing. It's so hard to have good timing in the computer world.

As soon as I bought my 6600gt almost a year ago the 6800's went down in price.. then 7800's came out. I'm worried that'll happen again.

Before my 6600gt I had the geforce 4200ti and that rocked for a long long time. (So it seemed). right until mohpa came out.

Lame... here 7800 GTX price is about 27,500 bucks and 7800 GT is about 16,500 bucks.
