I little problem! Everything is in "Last Modified"

ARH!! I can't change this!! I'm using Windows98se, and when ever I want to open a file, or save a file the open or save box is in "Last Modified" mode! <A HREF="http://www.whiteink-studio.com/error.jpg" target="_new">Click here for an example!</A> I hate it! Could someone please help me out? I hope someone knows how to fix the problem. I didn't have the problem before, (it could be from the Office XP installation maybe?) I really don't know.

Is the file you open read-only? If it sounds stupid, sorry, because it seems like the only "logical" explanation. (But, with Windows, is there really a logical explanation?)
