i want to buy a PC using some socket 754 processor (the best avaliable to buy in brazil) and probaly i would OC it... probaly it will be a Sempron 3400+ (2Ghz) and i want to make it 2.3Ghz... is the ASUS K8N (nForce3) good enough for this?
i personally have a K8V and have to say im very happy with it. never had any problems with it. granted its a via and not an nforce chipset but i dont think you can go wrong with asus. plus mine is almost black or navy blue so it looks cool in my windowed case. im overclocking my 3200+ to 2.1 ghz with almost no increase in temp and i have a standard amd heat sink.
i have an ASUS K8N with a sempron 3100+ palermo OCed from 1800mhz (200FSB) to 2178 (242 FSB), stock cooler. Simple as going into the bios and ramping up the FSB. It can go higher even, but my RAM is holding it back. The board will allow you to go up to a 300 FSB.
The only issue with overclocking on this board is that the RAM is overclocked with the FSB, you can't change the multiplier. My RAM doesn't overclock at all, so I have it set at 333Mhz in order for it to run at stock 400Mhz with the 242 FSB. You should get some RAM rated to at least 500Mhz which will take you to 250 FSB without having to mess with your RAM timings.
