I have just bought a 2.8 ghz (SL79k) P4 socket 478 wen i installed i can use the bios fine my computer cant boot it says disk error, i can sometimes boot from the windows xp disc but half way thru set up it says acpi has failed i put ym old processor ina nd evrythign is fine- all the data on my h/drive is still there

my guess is its a power issue, how big is your power supply? it may be too small to keep the proc powered and spin the hd/cd so that it can boot windows... thats my only guess :P

I suppose it would!

Although I could try offering a second guess. I guess it's possible that the HSF isn't installed properly and the processor is overheating.

lol thanks anyway- i got it fixed - i just had to rest the cmos its working fine now

Weird. I'd actually been thinking that, but I couldn't figure out how you'd get as far as you did if that were the problem. Well, glad that you've gotten it solved anyway. :lol:
