I have a Win2003 server (configured as DNS and with RRAS)
which is to act as a LNS to a VPDN network. The Telco
provides the NAS and does not support IPSEC or allow
client to server (pure Microsoft) VPN. Protocol is L2TP.
I have disabled IPSec on the Windows server (ProhibitIPSec
key = 1). The Telco use CHAP. I have the password of the
RRAS interface stored in reverse encryption via the Active
Directory.
A packet analyzer shows the SCCRQ received by the Windows
Server and a SCCRP returned. The SCCRP always has a FQDN
which is not expected by the Cisco LAC and authenticatin
fails. I am unable to change this. How doI fix this?
Can I achieve the correct results by IAS? I tried but
the "Advanced" settings in the Policy seem to be ignored
as well. Do I need to set Microsoft explicitly to use MD5
for CHAP?
Thanks.

Thanks for the overwhelnilg response. I have spent 3 weeks
on this but I think I have found the solution - another
Microsoft bug. The trick is to get the hotfix which
appears to be a national secret. (See Issue KB829074).
