Wow! This has to be the craziest and most amazing use of police resources I have ever come across.

Man who skipped paying hotel bill nabbed through toothbrush he left behind

On one hand, this is really cool science and tech. This never would have even been considered possible 40 years ago. DNA profiling has come a LOONNNGGGG way since 1987!

On the other hand, this is some seriously scary stuff. They nabbed the guy from the saliva on his friggin' tooth brush! WHAT?!
Quote:
Police discovered the mouth cleaning instrument in the vacant hotel room, and after having it forensically checked—in CSI fashion—found a match in their database to Evans, news.com.au reports.
Emphasis mine. Read between the lines, this is to say the police database had a sample of this guys DNA on file in order to make a positive identification! WTF?! Think of the long term consequences...

I am in no way defending the guy, he skipped out on his financial and legal obligation and deserves to remunerate the hotel for services rendered. But not for nothing, I bet you dollar for dollar that the cost in police time, from the moment the hotel made the call to the police to the time they got the test results back, is far greater than the money owed to the hotel.

I'm glad this tech works but this just seems an egregious use of police resources to repay the hotel $197!

Wow! Just...wow! just re-enforces the need to wear rubber gloves and a hazard suit when I decide to go off the farm.

Yup, they are building a DNA database to go along with the facial recognition database.

As part of Obamacare, newborns will automatically have a DNA sample taken, without parental consent.

They have been storing the DNA of criminals for quite awhile now and no one really argued that. But now, criminal or not, they got you by the balls.

Awesome. Too bad they won't run the fingerprint on the truck of my coworker's car to see if they have that person on record.
