I really want some opinions on this. I personally think it is a bunch of crap, but hey that is just me.

Yes and no. I think it desensitizes us to events in the media, but not to stuff in real life.

Nothing can ever compare to actually being at the scene of a shooting (the aftermath), horrible car accident, etc.

Reply to mpjesse

It is a bunch of crap. Games/movies/whatever people seem to be bitching about lately can not compare to the real thing.

Reply to Action_Man

Yes and no.

Games, movies, news reports etc. are desensitizing us to themselves, if you will. The level of violence you see in 80s and 90s movies would have shocked audiences in the 50s.

But most people can tell the difference between video games and real life - that the two are worlds apart and getting used to violence in video games does not mean you're getting used to it in real life.

In another movie analogy, consider some of the really brutal gore-flicks of the 80s. Plenty of people watched those and gotten used to that level of gore, but that doesn't mean they're desensitized to people being ripped apart.

It's all bollocks. I've watched plenty of porn and still like a good shag. Does it make me treat women as sex objects? Absofcukinglutely.

Violent video games desensitise us to violent video games.
That's why the only people complaining about them are the people that don't play them.

Reply to andopolis

I've read many of your posts and still can't stand morons.

Reply to Tom_Smart

I'm rather partial to your posts.

Maybe.
I need it pointed out to me and explained, with diagrams usually, before realisation dawns and I hold my hands up.

Also, I lied.

Caboose ain't so smartester I am neither stupid or a pot-head. I remember posting that when I made this. Why did I post another thread? I wonder how many people would have said "Why the fock did you revive this?" And besides, that thread was about violence in children, this is about "Us," being desensitized.

but completely unscrupulous as well as unethical; not my cup of tea Gov; I dont roll that way. Truly mate, I think its completely focking unacceptable to think the way you just posed, regardless of the human endeavour involved. [/shades of Rousseau]

Teamleader tells me to "get em in and get em out" the other day. You sell like that then your scum; another steretypical Indian call centre operating on disgraceful terms. Fock that shite entirely - the world's people mean so much more to me than just dollars through the door.

Seriously Gov, I appreciate the thrust of your sentiments but disagree entirely. :D

Quit the focker on Monday anyhows and am now taking up a roll in a boutique travel agency that deals solely with high-end sports tours to and around world. I get to talk racing in Dubai, football in Liverpool, rugby in New Zealand, to name but three and I'll be managing groups rather than dealing in retail which suits me fine. Great opportunity actually, and I'm stoked given that I've been shockingly depressed of late.

Reply to BomberBill

A job talkin' sports all day? Ooooohhhh.....:trophy:

Please quit appreciating his thrusting, of any kind, though. Or at least stop notifying us. That's just nasty.

Reply to Auburn9698

Good ole' Aub. Hope you're well, Chief. :)

Congrats on the new job. Pity you were sacked from the last for being a tree hugging give a fcuker.

Mate, you're harder than a coffin nail, you are.

:)

You'd not only sell sand to the Arabs; you'd re-sell the 12 wives they've already got each at a profit and get a blowjob from them all too before handing them back. :P

You not understanding me or something, Digs?

Dont tell me you've never not heard that expression before?

Hey, you married that glorious Southern Belle yet? I wan an invite to that wedding you bugger; I just watched Wedding Crashers and thought: 'yeah, I could do that. I focking damn well could do that!'

Its these rich southern belles I want to get amongst and I dig bridal parties man, especially the bridesmaids.

Hey, every wedding needs a Aussie larrikin to spice it up.

Make sure you don't shave for a month, take no showers for a week, wear no deodorant and not brush your teeth for a month and drink hard liquor the whole time. Make sure when you go to the wedding to bring a six pack of the cheapest shite possible and while the Priest yaps away open a few of them and sing "I feel pretty, oh so pretty!" The entire time.

Reply to Caboose-1

Hey, its the Boose, how are ya man? :D

What's doing?

I see you've been to a few dumb-shite hicksville piss-ups in your day.

Yeah, all this "my name is Earl" shite is all the rage.

Its now "chic" to be Southern. :P 8)

Better be careful, my good mate Russ might give me a few choice words if I'm not careful.

Wouldn't worry about Aubs and Phuks though; buggers are too busy pissing and moaning about this season's chances.

Reply to BomberBill

No, I just... yeah I have. I found this lovely man tool, it would be quite useful for someone like Piddy: Help me, I can't spell for shite dot com It is actually very useful for anyone, but Piddy needs it the most. Only works for Internet Explorer, you Linux and Mac users suck anyway.

With a year-and-a-half only until my 30th, I'm a trifle concerned.

I must admit though, I certainly dont have the same zeal for games that I once did.

Although, I've only just got CIV4 and am enjoying it thoroughly.

Rome Total War and its expansion are tops! I thoroughly enjoy in-depth strategy and the total war series has been great value for me.

Just got warcraft 3 but haven't played it yet.

I think that goes for most of us here, paying the bills (your name as pun intended) comes before free time, sadly.

Reply to Caboose-1

Yes, giving me cash should be everyone's top priority.

Just getting that cheap-arsed Scouser to give over his cash is nigh impossible, I tell you.

Get him pissed drunk, and when he falls asleep, dress him up in a ninja costume and give him a crowbar. Then point him in the direction of the nearest bank; I'd love to tape that!
