What's better for Battlefield 2, AIW 800XT, or a 6800GS???

Please help!

I finally saved enough for a serious upgrade in the graphics card dept., and it needs to be an AGP card.

I can either get an ATI X800XT AIW (256Mb), or I've read that the 6800GS is a good one as well...

Which one is best for BATTLEFIELD 2?!?!?!?

Many thanks,
HarryLemon

P4 2.8GHz, 1Gb PC2700 DDR2 RAM, 2x 120Gb 7200RPM Seagates in RAID 0, on a P4C800 Deluxe Asus Dual Channel MB.

well, these cards' performance is meant to be close to the pci-e versions...

i would guess, the 6800gs is faster with eye candy turned off but it becomes quite close with eye candy on...

I'd say the X800XT would easily be quicker in BF2, and in almost every other game. There is simply no comparison, the 6800GS AGP is clocked lower than the PCI-e version even.

(edit)OK, here you can see, a X800XL beats out a 6800GT in BF2. A X800XT is basically a faster clocked XL for comparison sake(akthough in this case it's a 512MB), and the 6800GS AGP being slower than the PCI-e, will also be slower than a 6800GT.

So I'd say the X800XT is way better in BF2 than a 6800GS AGP, especially with eye candy turned on.

BF2 is a RAM pig. With a 6800GT I couldn't run it smoothly at
1600x1200 4/AA everything on high until I got a 2nd GB of RAM.
Now I average 50 to 70 fps and never a hick-up.

AMD 64 3400+, 2GB PC3200, 6800GT all at stock speeds, for now.

Agreed!

Heck, it might be close until the eye candy was turned on.

Awesome - thank you guys! :D

That makes choosing a lot easier (for BF2)... Now I'm only worried that the Pixel Shader support (or lack of for vs. 3) will be something I'll regret elsewhere as well?

Thanks again,

It's not like you're going to stand on the carrier and look at the water... but it can make a huge difference in how much you want to play the game.
