I am looking into buying an nVidia 7800GT or 7800GTX but my current motherboard does not support PCI-Express. I want to replace it as well and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good combination of the two.
I have purchased ASUS vid cards and mobos in the past and have always been pleased with them, although my current setup is a ASUS mobo with and aTI Radeon 9800XT card.
Is it advisable to buy the mobo from the same manufacturer of the vid card?
It doesn't make any difference. Mixing motherboards and video cards is fine. You left out one important piece of information though. What CPU are you going to use???
If it's an AMD, the two motherboards I really like are the Asus A8N32-SLI (currently the fastest nVidia board out there) and the Asus A8N-SLI Premium. DFI makes a great SLI mobo too. MSI ain't too shabby either.
If it's an Intel, I have no clue. I don't pay them much attention anymore. ;-)
