Memory Heat Problems

January 19, 2006 12:47:03 PM

I bought two new memory modules a few months ago. The memory is from OCZ. They are 2x 512MB for a total of 1GB. The second I put the new memory in my system, it started to freeze in the middle of games. I openned my case and the RAM sticks were getting extremely hot. To test this, I set an ordinary house fan to blow into my case. When I did this, my system stopped hanging and I was able to play non-stop for over 8 hours. Is it usual for high-performance RAM to have problems like this? Are there any RAM cooling options that you could recommend to me?

Here are my basic system specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 chipset motherboard by MSI
Abit Radeon x700 Pro w/ 256MB
2x OCZ PC3200 512MB DDR, cas 2-2-2-8

I have a midtower case with a 80mm sidepanel fan blowing in, and a 120mm case fan blowing out the back.
