I've settled on AMD 939 CPU, but the list of Mobo's out there is daunting. Reading the reviews on newegg, there are CONS with almost all of them.

I was thinking of the MSI K8N Neo4-F, but the reviews are not very flattering. I'll wretch if after taking all this time to get the "right" components, I have problems with the mobo.

Any suggestions??

"I was thinking of the MSI K8N Neo4-F, "

Now *THIS* is one topic I can speak with some first hand experience on, as it is the mb I use daily...!

It is an issue free mb at stock speeds...I paid $89 retail for it, and it has been flawless. (At stock speeds, and any FSB up to/including 216 MHz)

I tried every trick in the book, but could not get the FSB above 216 MHz with any stability...newer BIOS, lowered HTT, lower mem ratios, lower cpu multiplier, upped core voltage, upped chipset voltage, relaxed mem timings, you name it...

At least for this board...if you are having fantasies of 20-40% overclocks...look elsewhere. (I kind of doubt it's my 3500+ Venice core, but, I can't rule it out!)

I don't place much if any faith in most Newegg users comments, as there is no way to judge an unknown individual's attentiveness, power supply selection, ESD practices, et al.

Before diving in can you tell us what kind of machine this MB will be used for? Business, gaming? SLI? That would cull the field down a bit.

I've been using MSI K8N SLi Platinum. I'm on an Athlon X2 4400+ on Corsair XMS C2 memory and 220MHz, no sweat, no overvoltage, no timing downscale (2-3-3-8 standard).

Check for ASUS, MSI, DFI m/b's.. you won't be disappointed.

I personally have the MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum. Runs flawless with no catches. Only problem I have come across is when i tried running both sata raid controllers. They worked fine and stable but the bios tried to force me to install windows to the silicon image array when i selected the Nvidia array. Its not a big deal if you plan on using only 1 controller or dont care which you select to boot from. Other then that its a great board. The best I have come across in a long long time.

I just loked at the EPoX 9NPA+ Ultra and EPoX 9NPA+ SLI. Looks like a lot of fairly good comments on newegg and the price is certainly right. I haven't heard too much about EPoX. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this manufacturer?

Go with the DFI. You won't be disappointed. I recently got the Ultra-D. It's highly customizable, can be modded to support SLI, and has the DFI reputation behind it. Worth every penny, especially if you're looking to overclock at some point.

One that people don't mention a lot, but is far and away a superior board, is the Tyan Tomcat. The reason you do not see many people suggesting it is because it is not sold at Newegg.

Check the reviews for yourself. You will see that a lot of the hardcore builders rate this board very highly.

As for me, personally, I like Abit. I have the KN8 SLI which has been rock solid and overclocks like a champ.

You will never find a five star MB at Newegg. A board is such a odd creature that it is impossible to make it perfect for everyone (e.g. doesn't OC enough, not stable enough, directions confusing, etc.).
