Is 1.750 volts for an AMD64 3500 Venice SAFE???

My 3500+ is OCed from 2.2 Ghz to 2.7 @ 246 FSB
I have the big Typhoon Heatsink and my PC runs @ 35-55C.

I've heard from some folks that 1.4 is as high as anyone should go... am I doing anything wrong? Cos if I lower the voltage my system is unstable -- its stable now just curious.

I have no previous experience so I don't have anything to compare this situation to.

Thanks in advance.

That is pretty high, for a Venice. I was able to overclock my 3000 (1.8Ghz) to 2.5Ghz, while only raising the voltage to 1.475. More voltage = more heat, and reduced lifespan.

Your system might not be stable on account of other factors, not just your CPU. Make sure you have your HTT multiplier set at 4, instead of 5. Running the HTT bus too high can cause instability. Also, make sure your RAM is running at an appropriate speed. If you don't adjust your RAM divider, you can inadvertantly run your RAM at frequencies that it isn't stable at.

well it's stable now and my HTT is @ 4x (~250x4=1000)

I know this is weird that's why I ask!
lol

ALso, could it be that I'm over OCing and need to add way too much voltage just to get it to work?

i got my 3200+venice@ 260x9 multiplier and HTT@4 (260x4=1040) so does this mean its unstable? :? or what if i go higher like (270x4=1080) will it be okay?. assuming if i will be using a 9 multiplier 300 x 9 would be 2.7 and HTT 4 that is like 300x4=1200.. 8O sory for buttin-in im noob.. and verry eager to learn..

Try to keep your HTT bus as close to 1000Mhz as possible. A little over, or a little under, won't hurt.

Also, if you have a 3200, why don't you use the 10x multiplier? It will allow you to overclock your CPU without having your RAM and FSB frequencies so far out of synch.

ok thanks, so your saying im much better to stay @ 10multi with 1:1 divider? ex: 250*10/250*4HTT=1000.. but how about if i would like to go a bit higher to aim a 2.6 ~ 2.7? :?

With my 3000+ Venice, I got 300x9 for 2.7GHz... (stock is 1.8, so that's 900MHz overclock) and I had to use 1.71 vcore... Prime95 stable for 72 hours... idles at 30c, load at 42c...
