I have a used power adapter that I want to get rid of (give away or sell). It's from an old APS Technologies DAT drive, output +5V/1.0A and +12V/2.0A. Trouble is, I don't know how to describe it to potential recipients because the connector on it is kind of strange. It looks like the kind of connector used for PS/2 mice and keyboards. Is there some special name for power adapters like this? Or is it so unusual that nobody would want it and I should just throw it away? Pictures are here:
It was from an old APS Technologies DAT drive. I actually had two power adapters for it (long story), and when I sold the drive I forgot to throw in this extra one. I kept it thinking I would need it someday, but I've yet to come across a device that uses this particular kind of connector. I figured somebody here would be able to identify it and say, "Oh yeah, that's an XYZ connector typically used for ABC devices" or something to that effect.
To me, since both ends have male pins on the inside it looks like a male to male adapter.
Actually, the two pictures are of the same connector. (Sorry, I should have made that clearer.) I've edited my original post and replaced one of the pictures with an image of the entire adapter.
Off the top of my head it looks like a laptop power connector.
Actually, it's from an old DAT drive from APS Technologies. (Should have mentioned that in my original post; I've gone back and edited it to clarify.) It looked kind of like this, except I'm pretty sure it was this model in particular.
Incidentally, APS Technologies has since been acquired by LaCie after losing its shirt while trying to make Mac clones.
I was contacted by a Mac geek who said the connector is of the ADB type, a Mac-specific bus connector no longer in use. It kind of makes sense because the OEM manufacturer (APS) sold mainly to the Mac market, but then why would ADB, which is a serial connector, be used for power? Strange...
