6800 gs vs x850 xt

Since Rugger found a good deal on x850 xt... who would win? i was getting a 6800 gs but i saw x850 has 16 pipes and high clock speeds.

I'm going to be ordering a gfx card in 2 months, but if I had to order tonight, I'll probably go for the X850XT. According to Wusy, it's a 'failure' because it takes 2 slot and that might trap hot air inside the case. I really dunno about that, but I'd go for the Ati anyways.

The X850XT is easily the superior performer compared to a GF6800GS. Shoot, it would beat out a 6800Ultra in more games than not. Unless you can do a 7800GT, go for the cheap X850XT.

Near as I can tell the 6800GS is similar to the x800xl the x850xt should be a lot faster. How much is the x850xt? You do have PCI-express right? Why not the 7800 GT?

Why would a larger 2 slot fan trap air inside the case? It will move more air, and many of them are vented in the back pulling cool air in from the outside and blowing it over the GPU. Whereas if a card isn't vented be it single or dual slot, it's blowing the warmer in-case air over your graphics card. Anway, I'd be surprised to see Wusy say such a thing as "2 slot fan is a failure for trapping hot air inside the case"; link? Either you misunderstood or Wusy needs a beating.

If you don't mind me saying so, this system:

AMD Athlon 64 2x 3800+
Gigabyte K8NF-9
1GB 2.5-3-3-5
Western Digital 250GB
Ati Radeon x300 @ 421/220

is a complete mismatch of parts if it is to be a gaming system. You have spent quite a bit on the dual core CPU but completely wimped out the the graphic card. At $200 that x850xt is a really good deal but I think a 7800GT would be worth a look. The GS should be out of the question for this system.

What about Shader 3 vs 2?? Newer games coming out will be using more of 3 wont it? 3DMARK06 favors 3 over 2.

If you want 3dmark06 Sm3 scores, buy the 6800GS, if you want the higher performing gaming card, get the X850XT.
