Help diagnosing problem - Error screen flash then reboots

Last response: in Systems

I built a new system friday and 3 times the blue screen with white letters appear for a split second and the system reboots. Not under any load in particular and the pc does not appear to be running hot. After playing Doom3 for a while the temps don't appear to be over 40C.

The first time XP recognized the error and created an error report to send to MS. The last two times, reboots and XP doesn't notice on restart.

Any ideas on how to go about tracing/diagnosing this. Afraid of being 1/2 hour into a word doc and bang....

Any help appreciated.

Use the following method to stop the PC rebooting on an error:

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure, and then click OK.

The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.

Please post the error message here and we will try to pinpoint the problem.

I'll try that when I get home. Thanks.
