Here's something new from Yahoo that you could spend hours
with. The URL is centered on Chicago, O'Hare. If you zoom in
you can identify all the aircraft types. Planes are lining up for
takeoff on 9L, 14L, 22L, & 27L. Meigs is still intact. Most of
the major centres in US and Canada are in hi-res. It looks like
the photos are taken over a several years span and in different
seasons.

Can you find Area 51 or what's left of it?

id,
It's not bad for a free service, but I like Keyhole 2 better. Keyhole
has more recent images, allows you to zoom in much closer, lets you pan and
rotate the image, lets you tilt the image from 0-degrees to 90-degrees,
allows you to "fly" acrross an image, and also texture-wraps the images
around elevation data, to give you a true 3-D image that you can rotate, pan
& zoom. I find Keyhole a great way to fly cross-country. The downside of
Keyhole 2 is that it costs $30 a year for the service, and not every area of
the world has high resolution satellite images. In my opinion though, its
well worth it.

How appropriate of a thread!! Wait till you see the following map
from a previous thread entitled `between the runways'. In the clip
below indicated by a black icon.. is a former property of mine in
proximity to Rwy 14's OMs. While back in the '80s.. you can imagine
a LOT of 727 traffic would pass by.. depending on winds that is.
Also notice to the left of map is Ned Brown Forest Preserve. Now
Chicago isn't know as `the windy city' for nothing. Point is.. in the
cold and grey fall months.. one could go to the open areas of the park
(softball fields.. etc.) and watch many a' 727 crank into stiff and
gusty crosswinds on final into 14R. Trailing smoke and twisting in the
air.. what a sight. Those were the days!!

This is much better for people outside the US, and also has hi-res USGS
images of major US towns and cities.
