I am really bad when it comes to screwing with anything on my computer. I enjoy gaming and do it to an absurd level, which is bad. I have Valve’s CS: Source and have a terrible time getting decent frames and usually have an average of around 50 with considerable drops. I want to OC my card so I can get better FPS and actually enjoy playing the game.

Can anyone either direct me to a site with help or can someone give me correct numbers to put in so my card can get the best performance possible?

Here are my computer specs:
HP
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2.16 GHz
1.0 GB of Ram

I also recently reformatted with no such luck in fixing the problem.

(P.S. This card isn’t very good)

PLEASE HELP!!

Download ATiTools(search on Google for it) or use the latest ATi Omega driver.

Start by raising RAM to 360Mhz(720DDR) and core to 400Mhz.
Work your way up by 5Mhz at a time on core until you get artifacts in benchmark/game then back down.

Thanx RC.

Well I tried the ATiTool to raise my card. I really had no idea what I was doing so I used the "Find Max Core" and "Find Max Memory". After sitting here for 20 minutes all did did was actually decrease a few points. Is this bad or what? I am extremely newbie when it comes to something like this.

Also, How can i raise my RAM? I forget where to go to do this.

Well, as a benchmark, my 9800 non-pro 128MB gets to 418/360 from 325/290, so take what you will from that. I would guess your Pro should do similar, perhaps even slightly higher.
I would say, don't worry *too* much. As long as you don't start by doubling the numbers or anything you're quite unlikely to permanently damage anything. Worst case scenario g youenerally is that freeze, cured by a reboot.

P.S. The above is advice. Take it as such. Your gfx card explodes, don't sue me ;)

fps_max 300

cl_updaterate 90

Your system can use up to a 6800GS/X800 series, but to get the best out of them you'll need to clock your Barton up to 2.4Ghz.

Thanks for your help wusy, yet i need it again.

I have no idea how to OC my processor, is there a program to allow me to do this?

depends on the motherbaord, you just use the multiplies and the voltage but follow the other guys instructions.

i have a barton 2800 333 first running as a 3200 333 for 6 months then got some 400 ram and ran as 3200 333 with 400 ram then one day tried the barton at 400 and it has been working fine since running both ram and cpu at same speed, was using corsair memory. my ram and cpu have different setting to adjust., speed i ts been running this way for 4 months or so
i also have a 9800 pro

theres acctualy is a utility for overclocking your bus from some software, id say try and get your bus to run at 466mhz because it will speed up everything in your system then try and go for extra mhz i basically have the same system except i have my 6800 and my 9800pro is in my second rig. i was able to run hl2 on maximum settings(no aa/af) 1280x1024 with no lag so you should be able to do the same what are your settings?

FPS in all HL2 mods are dictated mostly by how fast your cpu is. i bought a X850XT PE and added it to my current system and i saw no increase in fps. well, i did but as soon as the server filled up, my fps were the same as before with my 9800 so it was useless in HL2 (DODS) returned it
