Connecting hdmi cable to tv using acer aspire 5741z

I have the Acer Aspire 5741Z and it has HDMI connection on the side. I plugged in the cord to the laptop and then to the TV. Sometimes (depending on the model of the TV) when I set the menu to HDMI the TV will search for the connection and signal and connnect automatically. Then with other TV's is doesn't. What am I doing wrong or does to laptop has to be configured someway?

Sometimes the laptop has to reminded that it is connected to another display. Control panel -> Display , look around and setup for multiple displays.

As for why your laptop does it for one TV and not the other, I don't know
