win 95 will not detect either the cdrom that came with the
machine or one purchased yesterday. (the new cdrom says
win95 compatible). Thanks for the help.

Check Device Manager. Expand each category and check
for extraneous entries for hardware that you do not have.

Do this in Normal Mode, and again in Safe Mode,
to see if there is any difference in what is reported.

Extraneous entries can force the computer into
MS-DOS compatibility mode, one consequence
of which is that your CD-ROM access is unavailable
until you resolve the issue(s).
