Hi i just need some help on chossing a video card

My specs are

P4 2.4gh
GeForce 6200
512mb ram
80gig ide hardrive
msi 6577 mobo
AGP 4x
MGE SIDEWINDER 400W case + psu

My comp was originaly a Hp 743a from about 4 years ago although i ve ugraded the case psu and video card i am very unhappy of the performence of the 6200 so i want to possibly go for a 6800GS my budget is around 350 AUD.

My major concern is the AGP 4x i no AGP 8X is backwards compatible put how much performence am i sacraficing. Also is 1 gig of ram needed im a casual gamer i play games like feaR and when playing it its choppy so i susspect thats do do with the ram vid card.

I wouldn't worry too much about the 4x AGP, you probably won't notice much problem with it if you upgrade cards. And, yes, 1G of ram would help you some with the hitching in new games like FEAR and Q4, etc.

Hey miloman I am also considering the 6800GS, upgrading from a Radeon 9600XT. This was the best model I could find on newegg. Just for your benefit. :) And yes get 1 Gig of RAM. I upgraded to 2.5gig from 512mb and it did wonders for my games. I use to have to play BattleField 2 with the graphics on low online and it was still sorta choppy but now with the 2.5gig of ram it runs silky smooth on medium graphics. I was really surprised despite having a vid card three generations old. Anyway check out the Corsair ValuSelect on newegg. I bought two sticks of it and haven't had any trouble at all. Good luck bud.

Sorry, the 6800GS on that link is at the bottom of the list its the more expensive eVGA.

I believe most ppl choose BFG, XFX, or eVGA. I personally like eVGA and then BFG(its normally more expensive with out much more performance increase).
