Hey guys,

I was just wondering if you think upgrading from my ATI R9200SE-DT Video card to FX5200LP V2.0 Card is totaly worth it?

Im not out to spend much cash at all I just need something that supports DirectX 9.0 which my ATI card does not, i mean i know it would be worth it in the fact i need sumthing that supports DX 9.0 but im after any info/comments in regards to if theres much difference between the two that i might find while running apps/games etc

any info etc would be great, thx for the help

here are the specs of the two cards

ATI R9200SE-DT

FX5200LP V2.0

Both cards are excruciatingly slow in 3D apps....

Are you planning any Direct x 9.0 gaming?

If so. Nvidia has a 6800 (not a GT, which is drastically more) for around $110=ish, whcih would be drastically faster than any $60 product....; 6600GT aer also not expensive, but offer good performance for the money spent at medium resolutions.

only prob there is I cant find a dealer in my area that sells it, wat about a 6200AL would that card be much diff compared to the otehr card i listed?

Im not a hardcore gamer, and 99% of the games i play run fine on the card i have.

also how do i tell the Series of a card? for e.g a Nvida 3/Ti, 6, 7 etc?

thx for the replys :)

A 6800 would be overkill bigtime. That would be like going from a broken reno clio to a f1 car. You would get a bonus but i have a fx5200le and its crap. (i'm not one o those people who wants high resolution at max settings)

I would reccomend a 9600pro it is dx9 compatable is a very good performer and and will not break your bank like a 6800 would (there is no way you will get for under £125 or more!!! You ought to get one for around £60 and it will be alot better that what you are used to!

I second black-heart's response. The FX5200 might have DX9, but it is in the same league as GeForce 4MX as regards overall performance - you would not really witness any improvement over your existing card.

Why cant you buy online? Well, if you have to choose from a dealer, then tell us what kind he has and I'm sure we will send you in the right direction. I had a 5200 vanilla and it was ok with XP1700. But I know that the 5200 would suck a DX9 games. Didnt all the 5000 series besides the 5700 ultra stink at DX9? I would not recommend the 6200. Here are a few cards i think tou would see an improvement with at a decent price:

9600 Pro
9700 series
9500 Pro

Any of these cards can be found for just a little over $100. Does your dealer have any used verisons of these cards?

maybe he don't have a credit card,
In my opnion (I'm eating my breakfast) you should pick carefully
these video cards are cheap;
X700 or 6600GT if you want entry level 6200 or 9600 with 128~256MB.
you will be fine with games at 1024 x 768 res.

What have your local store got in stock and at what price cos a 6600 at pc world will cost £129.99  which is a total rip off. If you can find one at £70 ish pounds its a good deal.
