I have a 3 year old Intel MB (D845GEBV2) using WinXP for home that has been flawless until yesterday when the keyboard (KB) quit. Tried another KB and it didn't work either. Took my dead KB to the wife's computer and it was fine. So now I suspect the MB is quirky.
Today I plugged the KB into an adjacent PS2 outlet, meant for the mouse which is plugged into USB port. I figured what the heck, it's no good the way it is. It works! Is there anything wrong with doing this? Have searched and found no reference for plugging KB into mouse port.
Is the problem with the MB or could it be something else? I wonder if this is the beginning of the end?
I don't think were will be issue if it works but if you do run into problem you can easly pick a usb keyboard for like 10-15$ anyways and your MB will have at least 2 (should at least) slots anyway.

I've never heard of a mb interpreting a keyboard connected to a mouse PS2 input......but, ok, as I have not exactly tried it, I believe ya! :-)
MDD, You can see that I didn't know either. It had not occurred to me that there would the simple solutions that were previously offered, so I was willing to risk it. Now, are you curious to see if will work with your motherboard?
