Hi, we have 2 different issues.
when PC A uses VPN,
1. other PCs are not able to access A's shared folder
2. backup cannot be done because PC B, which retrospect client is
installed, cannot be connected to PC A.

Is this supposed to happen? We forced IP address under TCP/IP so PC A
does not have problem using internet, while using VPN. Netgear will
not help me out unless I pay, although our VPN router is still covered
by their their 90 day tech support.

Is there any resolution for this? Thanks in advance.

I'm doing exactly that with Retro Workgroup and a Powerbook via VPN
(Netgear FWAG114). My VPN/Retrospect client is at virtual address
192.168.2.128 so I set subnet broadcast on the Retrospect server to
192.168.2.128/255.255.255.255.

Don't even waste the phone call. You'll get nothing but frustrated. They
have a great product line but you're on your own.

Larry, Thanks for your respond.
Unfortunately, we use Retrospect Professional (We do not have server.)
so do not have option to broadcast subnet... So are you having no
problem using both VPN and retrospect at the SAME time, without
modifying router configuration after broadcast subnet? Thanks in
advance.

No problem at all. As a matter of fact as I type from work, my Powerbook
is being backed up to my Retrospect Workgroup server at home via VPN.
I'm at virtual private address 192.168.2.128. The Retrospect server is
behind my router/VPN endpoint at real private address 192.168.1.128. It
found me via subnet broadcast.

When I'm at home, with my PB behind the router at 192.168.1.124, it also
backs up fine.

You will need at least Workgroup to do this.

Retrospect pro will not cross a subnet boundary. It has been restricted to only work on a LAN configuration. If you can make your VPN client log in and obtain an IP on the same LAN as the backup machine you may be able to make things work.
