Im building a new computer to play high end games like Battle Field 2 Source e.t.c smoothly.

The problem is that im not sure i should buy a 939 pin or a 754 pin mobo. I know that the 939 is verry upgradeable in the future but i dont have much money. I was thinking of getting a 939 mobo with a weak CPU little ram (512) and pumping it up in the future, Or getting a pumped up 754 mobo right now.

HELP WAHT SHOULD I DO!!!!

azn:

simple question - how much are you willing to spend right now?

In a simple answer, go with a 939. That way, if you get a bit of extra money down the road, you can get a new chip. The higher end chips (Athlon x2) are mostly 939. In that since, make sure you get a mobo that is dual core compatable.

Also, you're going to need more than 512mb for BF2, a gig at min. I've been looking at upgrading soon as well, and i have a fairly decent computer list for $500 (that includes shipping) all @ newegg. I've also decided to up my limit to $600 for upgraded mobo and mem.

PM me if you'd like the list...

hey
yea, i'd hafta gree, prob go with the 939. The mobo may b a lil expensive, but i mean a 3000+ AMD 939, is only $170 US on newegg, prob cheaper sumwhere else. And ur right, the upgradability is really good. But then again, AMD suppose to have a new format coming out, so it mite b worth just gettin a cheap 754 for now, until the prices come down for the 939, or the new AMD comes out, whenever that is. As i said b4, 939 3000+ or higher is prob ur best bet, I have a 3500+ on an A8n-Sli mobo, with a 6600gt n a gig of ram, and it runs bf2 amazing, almost all high graphics b4 it chokes a bit.
Take the 939, the price difference between an average 939 and a high end 754 is prob not much. ANd the performance wuld probably equal out to about the same. Wut graphics card u putting in, and how much ram??? as well as ur price range

How much will you save by getting a 754 system?

Skt 939 mobos start around $80
Athlon64 3200CGBOX costs $163.90 @ ZipZoomFly
1 Gig Ram (2x512) matched $85
Totals to $329.

The only place to save $ is on the Athlon. It makes no sense to buy a 754 Athlon. That leaves a Sempron. You want to build a gaming rig?
Help me understand your dilemma.
