How can I prevent W95 from using short file names for word..

Everytime I open one of several wordpad files with similar names it shows
only an unintelligible short filename [~n] for it [even though I have
selected:
Dispay the full path in the address bar
Dispay the full path in the title bar.
Worse yet it wants to save the files with those unintelligible short file
names.
..
Is there anyway I can prevent W95 from behaving this way?
Thanks for any help.

I don't think there is any way to change that behaviour of Wordpad, other than to
use another word processor. BTW, Ron, when did you start going by the name "Lois"?
