Now I've just read the THG article about building a $500 gameing rig, I need to upgrade my AGP videocard badly but I'm on a tight budget and waiting to buy a new mobo and CPU after the Socket AM2 comes out and see if it is worth it.

I'm going to get:

Creative Audigy ZS to replace my on-board
A new 80GB HDD (WD, Hitachi, Seagate)
---- especially since my HDD is from my old computer from 2002 and is a Maxtor ----

Now for the videocard I need an AGP, I was thinking either the GeForce 6600GT 128MB or the GeForce 6600 256MB.

Now I know the videocard memory isn't that big of a factor, but do I want to stick with a 128MB for a few months or just get the 6600 256MB??

My budget is $200 at the max.

Thanks everyone

If you intend to play games above 1024*768 then you may need 256 mb video ram but Gt kicks 6600 ass anyway. ı can play NFSMW at 1024*768 all settings highest (included antialising) without any interruption so go for the GT

I would spend an extra 20 bucks and get the 6800gs. Its has 256mb of video ram and is faster than both cards mentioned. Newegg.com has BFG 6800gs OC for about $220.00 shipped. If thats not an option I would get the 6600gt even though it doesn't have as much ram it will still be a faster card. I currently own the BFG 6600gt OC 128mb and I can play every game except FEAR maxed without a problem. Although some games I can't run AA and AF at the 1280x1024. I normally don't mind not having AA and AF at that setting as long as I have all the eye candy with a good frame rate I'm happy.

You could get other brands of the 6800gs for under 200.00 from newegg.
