Since AMD chips don't operate on Quad Data Rate, do I need to worry about getting my RAM in synch with the processor? Is there some ideal speed along hypertransport I should worry about?
No. Your Athlon has a memory controller built in to it, hence the CPU and memory speak to each other on a dedicated bus... no HT involved. Hypertransport is the link between the CPU and northbridge. HT doesn't directly communicate with your RAM.
That being said, you still shoud have a 1:1 ratio with ur CPU. In your case, DDR400 would be a 1:1 ratio.
if you want to overclock i suggest putting your hypertransport bus at 4 instead of 5 your ram will be running at 166mhz now so youll have leeway to overclock 33 more mhz same thing goes with setting the multiplier lower.
