Can anyone help with this problem - crossover connected PCs (Realtek RTL8029AS)?
PC1: W2k[W/S]/sp3
PC2: multi-boot W2k[SERVR]/sp3 + W98
Using W98/DOS network is perfect With W2k Server disconnection problems arise (network name no longer available) if
a) copy file larger than about 1meg or
b) max-sized (65500 byte) buffer will start to timeout and eventually die after about 50 pings.
Tried NETBEUI-only - same results and reinstalled Server
WINS set at "Enable netbios over TCP/IP" - have tried "Use Netbios from DHCP server".
Wntipcfg reports...

Netstat reports Unknown Protocols (received) each end

have you authenitcated the dhcp in the ad? have you created a dns zone? have in the tcp ip properties on your server have you set the dns to its own ip? and the other machine, set the dns to the server ip? dont use the loopback, windows doesnt like it when you do that.

ad? dns zone? - should I need that with a 2PC peer-to-peer setup? tried the others suggs but no diff. Reverted to auto DHCP/DNS - no diff. Wondering if something to do with the W2k-Svr/old Cyrix200 combo being performance eclipsed whereas W98/Cyrix copes?
