Have a W95 machine cabled to Linksys router. It previously connected to the
internet without problem. Recently, it lost the internet connection, though
the other computer on the network has internet connection.
Did a ping 127.0.0.1 and it failed. Went to uninstall and reinstall TCP/IP,
but there was no listing under network properties, so it was somehow lost?
Anyway, following some procedures I found, I renamed vip, vnbt, vtcp, vtdi
and vdhcp from xxx.386 to xxx.old. Then added the TCP/IP using the network
properties boxes.
The first time, it started finding files on my W95 disk and telling me there
was a newer file on the computer and I should keep it. Did for all files
(about 6 or 8 of them). When it seemed to be done or almost done it stopped
running and gave an error. Had to start in safe mode.
Tried all again, got this message, "A fatal exception 0D has occurred at
0028:C1097FE5. The current application will be terminated."
Changed to standard VGA driver, didn't help.
Finally uninstalled and installed TCP/IP, this time taking the old files
from CD rather than the newer files. It ran throught the procedure fine,
restarted, windows came up--but same situation, no connection to internet, no
loopback success w ping 127.0.0.1. When I look now in network properties,
TCP/IP is there.

The above program only works for Windows 98, not 95.
If you are using a Firewall, check to make sure that it isn't set to block
Internet Access.
