AOL IE 5.5

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.win95.general.discussion (More info?)

Among onther upgrades, I recently installed a version of IE 5.5 that's
included on the ubiquitous AOL 9 discs on a Win95a machine. This release
seems to work OK, but it's SP0 version, not the highly prized SP2 release.

At the following site is a file that's 3.51 Mb in size:
http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/5.5_SP2/ie55sp2_nt.zip

It would seem to be a file that would upgrade IE 5.5 to SP2 status, but is
it?

Would I be asking for trouble if I were to manually integrate files in
that archive to my system?

I have no idea what that little file is.

You have the correct file there at that site. Why not use it?
    http://browsers.evolt.org/download.php?/ie/32bit/5.5_SP2/ie55sp2.exe

Here are a couple of others:

    Old IE versions.
    http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/microsoft/ie/
    http://www.greenapple.com/support/software/browsers/default.htm

For IE5.5 SP2, you can get a CD here for $2.99
    http://on-disk.com/ie55sp2.html

If you have a friend that hoards old PC User or PC World magazines
with the free CDs, you can get a copy from there.
