I have an Nvidia Geforce FX5500 256MB DDR graphics card. It's stock 230/266. I can only overclock to 265/300. Is that a good overclock range? Should it overclock more or less? I'm wondering just how much I got out of this card for my money. :)

5500? - Dont expect much(stable) headroom out of anything in that series.
EDIT: Well, what cooling solution do you have? If your stock, than you did alright. Last time I checked, there werent many if any volt mods or tweaks aside from raising your clocks. If you were to say, get a better
solution for that card, you would get farther, however how much, I really couldnt tell you.

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for that card?

I paid $59 for that... and I could have gotten a 6200 for $5 more. I keep kicking myself to this day that I didn't notice the 6200. Stock cooling, I put the AGP voltage up to 2.7 though, from 2.6. I'm not really that advanced in the area of overclocking graphics cards... so you can get volt mods and there are other tweaks? I'm interested to hear about them. :) thanks :)
