I wouldn't bother with XP64 unless you have high-performance computation intensive applications to run. Driver for XP64 have been few and far between and there aren't that many apps out there that have been ported for 64 bit yet. You CAN run apps in 32 bit mode, but they generally run slower. I'd go XP pro until vista comes along. From the previews that is an OS that just might be worth the upgrade.

Well, if money is no object then pay Bill the clams for Xp Pro, but if you don't see a need for what xp pro offers and need to save about 35 bucks, go with home.

jnjkele is right about xp64.

I am not sure why any home user would purchase XP Pro.. XP Home gives you everything you need to run your games, internet, mail etc.. Right now, NewEgg has XP Home OEM for 88.95 with free shipping.

Very true, I was thinking in terms of an Administrator and fuctionality. I guess the intent to what the system is ment for is the question.

They use the same kernel. On identical Single CPU machines perf should be the identical. there is no reason to go for Pro unless:
* it's free or cheaper than home, which its not
* your on a network where you need to join a domain ( in most cases you can patch in through an AD anyway)
* you have an SMP machine
* You need encrypted file system
* you need to run IIS on your workstation
