Wondering what a Celeron M 1.4GHz (360J) would do to my Celeron 2.5GHz laptop (apart from make it cooler). Any great informative insites on a performance comparison between the two?

Just pondering upon the thought of a random CPU upgrade.

With the mobile Celeron M generating only a third of the heat of the Northwood-based Celeron, should I expect a lot of increase in my battery life, or only a little?
(It lasts on average 50 minutes of casual browsing at the moment)

cheers

the two wouldnt be compatible

that sounds like a prescott celeron 2.53ghz by the battery life your tellin me.

performance wise - there two diffrent architectures, the Celeron M 1.4 is P6 based (Pentium 3) and has good battery life and power saving, the celeron 2.5 (northwood or prescott? and 2.5ghz or 2.53ghz?) would suck the battery twice as fast prolly.

Well it's an Intel 855GM chipset, which is supposed to be part of the Centrino family. Meaning it can take 'M' processors, so as far as I know it should work.

And it is a 400FSB Northwood Celeron. At 2.5ghz. 2.497ghz to be exact.

The Celeron M would kill the the Northwood/Prescott Celly, battery life would improve significantly...I believe the cpu should be compatible like hash said, its an Intel 855GM and its part of the Centrino family.
