I own an X-FI Fatal1ty with the faceplate in the 5.25 inch bay. I can use the front bay and plug my headphones into it and it sounds great. I can also record through the microphone port, but I have to set up Windows to use "Mic 2" instead of "Mic 1." Apparently the microphone jack on the back of the sound card is Mic 1 and the jack on the front panel is Mic 2.
I can tell windows which microphone to record off of, but you can only select one at a time. (I.E. I can only record through mic1 and have mic 2 disabled, or I may enable mic 2 and disable mic 1)
The problem arises now. Let's say I want to use Mic 2 (the front bay) for my headset. Even if I enable Mic 2 for recording in Windows, when I get into my games all I hear is a mute noise. I assume the game is still trying to get the recording from Mic 1, which is disabled. Do you think there is a way to record with Mic 2 in ALL of my games without configuring each game specifically? I wonder if there is a way to make the games automatically use Mic 2 instead of Mic1.
