I have a machine with Windows 95. Lately when I turn it on, it says "write
protect error" "writing drive C, abort, retry, fail" Does anyone know what
is going on with it and can it be fixed?

Get some hard disk drive diagnostic software from the www site of the hard
disk drive manufacturer and use it to track down the cause of the problem.
It could be a failed disk, a dislodged cable, missing BIOS settings, or a
number of other possibilities.

Enter BIOS setup and search for a setting named "virus protection" or "write
protect". Disable it.

Happened to me last week. What I did:

F8 to Safe Mode> Should come up with a 'request to fix registry' > OK it.
Will reboot.

If not run ScanDisk from SafeMode > Should correct.

Should reboot OK from there..... GL
