I'm going to do a clean install/upgrade from xp home to xp pro.
A couple of weeks ago I added a 7200rpm seagate 120g harddrive to my system, while keeping my old western digital 80g 5400. I want to make sure that the seagate is the drive my new os is located on. presently, the ide cable goes from the mb to the western digital and at the end of the line is the seagate. Should I switch the order to MB to Seagate with the Western digital at the end of the line to have my new os recorded on the seagate? Both drives jumpers are on CS.

1st - take the jumpers OFF CS (cable select).

set the drive you want your OS to be on to master.
set the 2nd drive to slave.
set the 2nd drive in a safe place on your desk or shelf while you install windows on your 1st drive. Normally the master drive is plugged into the 1st plug on your IDE cable.

Once everything seems to be working & you have all your drivers installed, attach the 2nd drive. This prevents any conflicts with the old drive and with windows or orther programs finding other or old copies of drivers.

Yes ,I do this.As the distance from MB to your master HDD is shorter, hence faster data exchange(between the MB and HDD).
If I were dave,I would delete the previous OS on Western.
