Hello,

I have an old HP Color LaserJet 5 and would like to print some b&w graphics
on a3 paper. Unfortunately, I have only an a4 tray. Thus, I always get the
"Load a3" message when I set the printer (using its control panel) to a3.
Since I do seldom need a3 printing (but it happens from time to time) I do
not want to buy a dedicated a3 tray.
I have noticed, that my tray has some sort of three holes in its back, with
some sort of a plastic pin inserted into the right hole and the middle and
the lefto one left empty. These holes are reflected by three little buttons
in the printer's tray slot. I suppose that the printer recognizes the type
of the tray inserted depending of the set of buttons pressed by the pins on
the tray.
Does anybody know if I am right and if the printer can be fooled by
appropriate setting of pins on my a4 tray? If yes, how does the set of pins
on a3 tray look like? I want to make it think it has an a3 tray inserted.

Second thing: I can not find an option to manual feed the printer in its
menu. Is there a way to manual feed a3 paper (without any tray or with a4
tray inserted)?

Hello again,

I went to try all the possible configurations of these pins on the tray and
after some time I found that the answer was very simple - after equipping
the tray with a single pin placed in the middle hole of my a4 tray the
printer started to thing that an a3 tray is inserted.
