Run Prime95 (Torture Test, Blend Mode, using all memory) to isolate the problem to the video card. Once you are certain it is video / or PCIe x16 slot / chipet related, go from there.

Chances are it could be PSU related, but isolate each component using synthetic tests to be sure.... otherwise you spend ages barking up the wrong tree trying to get a higher stable overclock.

very well could be psu that 7800gt needs 28A on 12v rail as a min. In SLI mode 34A.

OCZ
Enermax
PC Power & Cooling
Antec

all good solid psu i'd recommand OCZ as thats what I have its solid as a rock.

I think 28A on 12V rail is quite excessive for 7800GT. You may be confusing it with the x1900XT. As per THG review of the 7800GTX 512, the minimum requirements are a 350 W power supply with at least 22 A on the 12 V line and a 500 W supply with 30 A at 12 V for a system with two cards.

Personally, i agree in this aprticular case it may be the PSU. He hasn't mentioned the specific specs of the PSU (usually written on the side of the PSU). I now have a Aerocool Turbine 550W (certified for SLI) for my current system (in my sig), but i had to run the system with a Fortron 300W PSU for over a month when my 550W PSU burnt out on the second day and had to be sent for repairs (couldn't claim warranty as I had imported it from UK and couldnt send it back). The Fortron 300W states only 12A on the 12V rail... sounds impossible, but it ran the system rock stable for over a month till my 550W supply came back.

Not that I am recommending a weak PSU, but 400W itself is not at fault (in theory), has to be a poor quality PSU or inadequate voltage on a specific rail such as 12v.
