Any body know what these error messages mean?

When ever my computer boots up these three error messages are in Event
Viewer. Anyone know what they mean?

AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address
(0xcf8), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range. This could
lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical
assistance.

(0xcfc), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range. This could

Sounds like a RAM issue....either mismatched sticks or there is a timing
issue that is not resolved until windows has completely loaded. Have you
checked to see if there is an updated BIOS for your motherboard?

My older system gave me that error until a BIOS update did away with it. In
my case, the "error" was informative only as there were no problems with
the system's day to day operations. In most cases, it's safe to ignore the
message.

"ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address" error
message when you open the event viewer

They mean that there is something seriously in error and that you should
contact whoever sold you the computer for correction.

It means that you need to contact the maker of the MB for an updated BIOS and flash your existing BIOS with the new.

Thanks all for the replys and the suggested links--I read all, and it does
appear that a BIOS update is inorder. That will go on my to do list!

XP has a lot to do with my issues. I did not have any issues using W98se.
Now I am using XP and I have issues. Do the math.

Hmmmm, Ok, where would I find the BIOS in XP? And while
you're looking, where does XP keep the RAM?

Your problem is that you put a new os on an old machine and
are blaming your problems on XP. Do the math.

Not all that much. You only need to invest enough time to
make sure your BIOS is updated and any other components are
compatible with XP.
