College lab - monitoring when HP printers are out of paper?

I've used HP WebJetAdmin but is there a simpler program available that can
remotely keeps tabs of HP Laserjets to determine when they have a paper jam
or run out of paper? We have student workers in the lab but need a tool
simpler than WebJetadmin to allow them to be alerted when the printers jam
or run out of paper. We don't want to give them any features that allow
them to change settings on the printers. Any suggestions?
